During these cold autumn nights, people often light their wood stoves or fireplaces to keep warm. But do they know where their firewood came from? Was it legally harvested?

The Wildfire Management Branch, in conjunction with BC Parks, will be conducting a series of prescribed burns in the Churn Creek Protected Area between Oct. 21 and Oct. 31, 2013, weather permitting.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations advises that prescribed burning will take place in several areas west and south of Williams Lake between Oct. 17 and Oct. 31, 2013, weather conditions permitting.

Fall is the perfect time for B.C. homeowners to reduce wildfire threats to their property by completing a FireSmart assessment and removing flammable debris from their yards.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations advises that prescribed burning is planned for several areas west and south of Williams Lake between Sept. 24 and Oct. 31, weather conditions permitting.

Users of off-road vehicles, including ATV riders, are reminded to obey recreational use restrictions currently in effect in the Yanks Peak and Eureka Peak sub-alpine areas east of Williams Lake.

Effective at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 3, the open burning prohibition in the Cariboo Fire Centre will be rescinded due to a decreased risk of wildfires.

Effective at 12 noon on Aug. 20, 2013, the current campfire ban in the Cariboo Fire Centre will be rescinded due to a decreased risk of wildfires. Campfires will now be permitted throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre.

Effective at 12 noon on Friday, Aug. 9, the Cariboo Fire Centre will extend its campfire ban to the northwestern portion of the region.

Effective at 12 noon on Thursday, Aug. 1, all campfires are banned in all areas of the Southern Cariboo Fire Centre.
