As the snow falls and the holidays quickly approach, many Cariboo Chilcotin Coast residents are eager to get into the spirit and to make special memories with family and friends by enjoying what this region has to offer. Effective at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, all open fires will once again be allowed across the Cariboo Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations advises that an ecosystem restoration burn is planned for the Crow’s Bar area between Wednesday, Sept. 30 and Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, weather conditions permitting.

Effective at noon on Monday, Sept. 21, 2015, Category 2 open fires will once again be allowed throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre’s jurisdiction due to a decreased wildfire risk in the region. Category 3 open fires remain prohibited.

Effective at noon on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, campfires will once again be allowed throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre’s jurisdiction. However, the burning of waste or slash piles is still prohibited.

On the August 29-30 weekend, the BC Wildfire Service responded to four new human-caused wildfires in the Cariboo Fire Centre. One of those wildfires was sparked by an abandoned campfire.
