Effective at noon on Friday, July 25, 2014, campfires will once again be permitted in the Cariboo Fire Centre east of the Fraser River.

Effective at noon on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, the Cariboo Fire Centre will expand its campfire prohibition across the entire Cariboo Fire Centre.

Effective at noon Pacific Time on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, campfires will be prohibited in the Cariboo Fire Centre west of the Fraser River to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

The Cariboo Fire Centre is responding to three fires caused by lightning storms that moved through the Quesnel, Barkerville and Wells areas on Wednesday, July 2, 2014.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations plans to aerially treat approximately 34,000 hectares of forest in the Williams Lake Timber Supply Area and the 100 Mile House Timber Supply Area to reduce spruce budworm populations.

A renewed agreement between the Tsilhqot’in Nation and the provincial government will enhance government-to-government engagement on land and resource management and provide greater investor certainty in the Cariboo.

Effective at noon on May 16, 2014, Category 3 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

The provincial government is providing $180,000 to the Invasive Species Council of B.C. to help control the spread of invasive plants, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations.

To help develop a proposed Elk Management Plan for the Cariboo Region, members of the public, First Nations and natural resource stakeholders are invited to submit their feedback on a bulletin summarizing elk ecology, population status and management options.

Since April 1, 2014, the Cariboo Fire Centre has responded to seven wildfires that have burned about 20 hectares.
