When I think about what child care means for families in B.C., I think of all the patchwork calendars stuck to fridges across the province telling the child care story of each household. The mother-in-law, the uncle and the best friend are on deck this week, and dad will have to leave work early next week. It’s a puzzle of names, dates and times that only the family can understand.

British Columbia’s forest industry is facing difficult times. In the Interior, the end of the pine beetle cut, lower prices for lumber, and back-to-back catastrophic wildfire seasons have led to a number of sawmill closures. This has created hardship for workers and uncertainty for the communities that depend on forestry for their livelihoods.

Since the introduction of our Climate Action Plan in 2008, British Columbia has been recognized as a world leader in the fight against climate change.

Most people experience their government via the services they depend on: schools, highways, and hospitals. For the most part, these services are free - and very expensive to maintain, much less make new investments in.

On Tuesday, I stood in the legislature to acknowledge the great work during the past few months to determine the best path forward as we address historical wrongs by past B.C. governments against the Chinese community.

Since release of the BC Jobs Plan, B.C. has added 47,100 jobs as a result of a gain of 77,500 full-time positions combined with a loss of 30,300 part-time positions (as of February 2013).
