The public is invited to attend a community open house and participate in a discussion about the 2020 gypsy moth aerial spray treatment program in Surrey.

Smoke may be visible from Highway 97, south of Quesnel, as piles of woody debris are burned over the next few weeks to reduce wildfire risks in the area.

About 20 piles of woody debris will be burned along the perimeter of the 2017 Plateau wildfire site over the next few weeks to help reduce wildfire risks in the region.

Two public information meetings will be held in the Williams Lake area to provide details about wildfire risk reduction projects that will be completed over the next two years in areas where urban development borders on forested areas.

Land impacted by the suppression of the Torkelsen wildfire in 2018, including fireguards constructed to help slow the fire’s spread, has been rehabilitated.

Doug Donaldson, Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development, has released the following statement regarding government support for forestry contractors impacted by the conditions in the coastal forestry sector and the ongoing labour dispute on Vancouver Island:

To prevent gypsy moth populations from becoming established and minimize the risk they pose to forests, farms, orchards and trees, government is planning aerial-spray treatments in three regions of the province in 2020.

Proposed hunting, trapping, motor vehicle restriction and firearms restriction regulation changes for 2020 to 2022 are online and available for public review and feedback.
