Effective at noon on Friday, Sept. 13, 2019, Category 2 open fires will once again be allowed throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre’s jurisdiction due to a decreased wildfire risk in the region.

Effective at noon (Pacific time) on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019, Category 2 and Category 3 open burning prohibitions within the Southeast Fire Centre’s jurisdiction will be amended, due to a decreased wildfire risk.

The BC Wildfire Service is responding to the Bernard Creek fire, approximately five kilometres west of Mount Loki, which is located on the east side of Kootenay Lake near Kaslo.

The BC Wildfire Service plans to conduct two prescribed burns in the Maple Bay and Metchosin areas of Vancouver Island to reduce wildfire risks, manage flammable vegetation on the landscape and help restore Garry oak ecosystems.

Although some parts of British Columbia have received significant rainfall in recent weeks, this year’s wildfire season is far from over.

The BC Wildfire Service plans to burn piles of accumulated woody debris at a site in the Prince George Fire Zone, as part of ongoing fuel management treatments to reduce wildfire risks in the area.

A series of controlled burns in the Sulphur Creek area will enhance wildlife habitat for ungulates, such as moose and mule deer, reduce accumulations of forest fuels and help decrease wildfire risks.

The BC Wildfire Service will rescind its Category 2 open fire prohibition in Haida Gwaii effective at noon on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019.

The Arctic cold front currently moving through the Northwest Fire Centre has brought cooler temperatures and rain to most of the region.
