Effective noon (Pacific time) on Friday, May 24, 2019, burning prohibitions will be in effect throughout the Northwest Fire Centre’s jurisdiction to reduce wildfire risks and protect public safety.

Effective at noon (Pacific time) on Thursday, May 23, 2019, Category 2 open burns will be prohibited throughout the Prince George Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, to reduce wildfire risks and protect public safety.

Surrey residents are advised that the final aerial spraying treatment to eradicate invasive gypsy moths from 62 hectares of residential and municipal park land close to Highway 1 near the Port Mann Bridge is being moved up to Thursday, May 23, 2019.

The BC Wildfire Service is sending 267 personnel to Alberta to help with firefighting efforts due to an increasing wildfire threat in that province.

North Surrey residents are reminded that the final aerial-spraying treatment to eradicate invasive gypsy moths from 62 hectares of residential and municipal park land close to Highway 1 near the Port Mann Bridge will occur on Friday, May 24, 2019, between sunrise and 7:30 a.m., weather permitting.

Effective at noon on Friday, May 17, 2019, Category 2 open burning will once again be allowed throughout the Northwest Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

The Province is urging the public to stay safe and aware of wildfire risks as people travel around British Columbia to spend Victoria Day long weekend with friends and family and enjoy the beautiful, great outdoors.

The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine, in collaboration with the BC Wildfire Service, plans to complete a 23-hectare fuel management project around the community of Dease Lake throughout the spring and summer of 2019 to help reduce wildfire risks.  

The B.C. government is providing $750,000 to the Fraser Basin Council to support and explore flood management strategies.
