The BC Wildfire Service is currently responding to 25 active fires in the Cassiar fire zone, including the Alkali and Elbow Lake wildfires, which both have evacuation orders.

Effective immediately, area restrictions for Crown land in the vicinity of the Sugar Mountain and Mabel Creek wildfires are in effect to protect public safety, ensure the safety of firefighting personnel and deter interference with wildfire-control activities.

There have been 75 new wildfire starts in the Southeast Fire Centre over the past 48 hours, as a result of recent and ongoing lightning in the region.

Out-of-province firefighting personnel and aircraft will be arriving in B.C. over the next week to help the BC Wildfire Service battle 446 wildfires burning throughout the province.

Effective at noon on Aug. 2, 2018, the BC Wildfire Service implemented an area restriction order for Crown land in the vicinity of the Snowy Mountain wildfire to protect the public, ensure the safety of firefighting personnel and deter interference with wildfire control activities.

Due to hot and dry conditions and an increased wildfire risk, the BC Wildfire Service will be prohibiting campfires, Category 2 open burns and Category 3 open burns within the Northwest Fire Centre’s jurisdiction effective at noon on Friday, Aug. 3, 2018.

Effective immediately, there is an area restriction order for Crown land in the vicinity of the Shovel Lake wildfire, which is burning about 30 kilometres northeast of Burns Lake and about 25 kilometres northwest of Fraser Lake.

In the interest of public safety, the BC Wildfire Service is temporarily closing a portion of the Beaverfoot Forest Service Road near the Whitetail Creek wildfire, which is burning just outside Kootenay National Park and about 40 kilometres north of Radium Hot Springs.

Extremely warm and dry conditions have prompted the Province to announce a Level 3 hydrological drought rating for much of coastal British Columbia.
