The B.C. government and Coastal First Nations, an alliance of eight First Nations on the north and central coast and Haida Gwaii, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to continue and expand their work to protect the environment and boost the regional economy.

Indigenous students at public post-secondary institutions throughout British Columbia will have more support to succeed in post-secondary education and finish their studies.

Barb Ward-Burkitt has been appointed as the new chairwoman of the Minister’s Advisory Council on Indigenous Women (MACIW).

As part of ongoing work to implement the historic Supreme Court of Canada Tsilhqot’in Nation decision, Chief and Council of Xeni Gwet’in First Nations Government (Xeni Gwet’in) and provincial government representatives held a working session on May 29 to reaffirm the commitment to a strong partnership for ongoing management of the Declared Title Area, which is being transitioned to Xeni Gwet’in and the Tŝilhqot’in Nation.

The First Nations Summit and the governments of British Columbia and Canada are pleased to announce the reappointment of Celeste Haldane to another three-year term as Chief Commissioner of the BC Treaty Commission and look forward to continuing to work with her on the innovative approaches she brings to treaty policy.
