Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation Scott Fraser has issued the following statement to acknowledge the Sisters in Spirit vigils and the Red Dress campaign:

Over the past year, more than 400 people came together in communities throughout B.C. to listen and talk about how reconciliation with Indigenous people can shape a better future through workshops held by Reconciliation Canada.

For many First Nations communities, especially those in rural and remote areas, there is an urgent need for Internet and mobile connectivity, as well as digital-skills development.

When Westbank First Nation (WFN) opened its Youth Centre in January, they knew it would be popular, but the uptake has been beyond the community’s expectations.

For the Ktunaxa Nation, a key pillar of the community is supporting its most vulnerable citizens. It’s an effort that is changing lives for the better.

Over the first year of implementing its treaty, the Tla’amin Nation has embraced change and plenty of it.
