A key bridge on the Trans-Canada Highway at the site of a washout in the November 2021 flooding is nearing completion and has received an Indigenous name celebrating neighbouring communities in the Fraser Canyon. 

More reliable travel is coming for people through the Fraser Canyon as work moves forward to permanently repair the damages caused by the 2021 atmospheric river event.

The removal of the temporary bridge at the Falls Creek (Jackass Mountain) construction site requires a full closure of Highway 1 overnight on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024.  

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will close Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon on Monday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. (Pacific time), with heavy rainfall and rain on snow at higher elevations in the forecast.

With heavy rain in the forecast, Highway 1 in the Fraser Canyon will be closed from midnight tonight until approximately 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11.

Three years after work began, the conversion to a modern four-lane highway of the last two-lane section of the Trans-Canada Highway in the Kicking Horse Canyon east of Golden is nearing completion.

Highway 1 between Boston Bar and Lytton has reopened for travellers following a closure due to the Kookipi Creek wildfire.
