The Northwest Fire Centre responded to eight new wildfires on Monday, all the result of lightning that moved through northern B.C. throughout the afternoon.

Wildfire Management Branch crews, in partnership with the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, have completed a 5.8-hectare fuel management project southeast of Barriere near Agate Bay Road.

The Wildfire Management Branch has sent personnel to the Northwest Territories to aid in fire suppression efforts.

Communities within the Cassiar Fire Zone will continue to see smoke as a result of a large wildfire burning near Mess Creek, east of Mount Edziza Provincial Park.
