The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations is continuing a controlled burn project in the Haylmore area of the Pemberton Fire Zone.

Effective at noon on Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, all open fires will once again be allowed throughout the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, due to a decreased risk of wildfires.

As part of its commitment under the Provincial Domestic Violence Plan, the B.C. government is investing $500,000 to increase access to transition house and safe-home services for Aboriginal women and children who are affected by domestic violence.

Adult literacy programs in 75 communities throughout the province will receive $2.4 million in 2015-16 to provide more British Columbians with the literacy skills they need to take part in the growing economy.

Effective at noon on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires will once again be permitted in all forest districts within the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdictional area, except parts of the South Island Forest District.

Effective at noon on Friday, Aug. 28, campfires will once again be permitted throughout the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

Pacific Marine Drive has been reopened to vehicle traffic between Lake Cowichan and Port Renfrew. Fire crews have removed danger trees and cleared away debris related to the Spring Road/Lizard Lake along this route.
