Weather conditions are forcing smoke from wildfires in the interior of British Columbia to the coast, producing smoky skies on northern Vancouver Island and the mainland's central coast.

Effective at noon on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, campfires will once again be allowed within the Fraser Fire Zone (most of the Lower Fraser Valley) of the Coastal Fire Centre.

The Nahatlatch Forest Service Road has been reopened due to decreased wildfire activity and a reduced threat from the Mehatl Creek fire.

The Graham Island East Coast Farmers' Institute is celebrating over 100 years of farming and agriculture on Haida Gwaii.

The Nahatlatch Forest Service Road at the west end of Nahatlatch Lake will stay closed until further notice to help protect public safety and give unhindered access to wildfire crews.

Effective at noon on July 23, 2014, campfires will once again be permitted throughout the Coastal Fire Centre's jurisdiction.

A lightning storm, which tracked through the Fraser Canyon and surrounding areas on July 14, 2014, ignited wildfires that continue to burn in the Fraser Canyon, Nahatlatch River and Mahatl Creek drainages.

Effective at noon on July 17, 2014, all open burning (including campfires, Category 2 open fires and Category 3 open fires) will be prohibited in all areas of the Coastal Fire Centre except the "fog zone" and Haida Gwaii.

Comments and feedback are being sought on the Central Coast draft Marine Plan at a series of open houses and public meetings in Bella Coola and Shearwater, as part of the Marine Planning Partnership (MaPP) initiative for the North Pacific Coast.
