Lana Popham, Minister of Agriculture, made the following remarks at the BC Ag Day reception on Oct. 28, 2019 supporting B.C. livestock producers:

Over the next four years, farmers and researchers across the province will be working together to demonstrate and evaluate technologies and practices that increase the resilience of British Columbia’s (B.C.) farms and ranches as producers adapt to a changing climate.

Wild Pacific salmon is integral to the economic and social fabric of coastal communities, and is fundamental to Indigenous communities across British Columbia. The need to act now to protect habitat and restore our wild fish stocks is clear and indeed vital to the environmental and economic sustainability of the province.

British Columbia’s agriculture sector contributes $3.2 billion to Canada’s economy, with more than $2.6 billion in agri-food exports to 147 markets. The governments of Canada and British Columbia remain committed to the continued growth and success of British Columbia.’s agriculture sector by ensuring producers have the tools they need to manage significant risks that threaten the viability of their farms.
