Effective Monday, April 2, 2012 at 12 noon, the size of open fires will be restricted within the Cariboo Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect the public.

The future of the McAbee fossil site near Cache Creek is more secure than ever, with the Province announcing today that it will formally recognize the area as a Heritage Site.

The public is reminded of their responsibilities when conducting any backyard burning.

The public is invited to celebrate National Forest Week at the South Island Natural Resource District Open House on Thursday, Sept. 22 from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Effective at 12 noon on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, the prohibitions currently in place within the Kamloops Fire Centre's jurisdiction will be extended and expanded to other areas to help prevent human-caused wildfires.

A large number of human-caused wildfires and above-normal temperatures across the province have fire officials urging hunters and recreationalists to be extremely careful with campfires in the backcountry.
