As of November 2016, 35 craft distilleries and 19 commercial distilleries were operating in B.C.

For the sixth year in a row British Columbia is leading the pack when it comes to cutting red tape to make government programs and services easier to use.

An updated Liquor Control and Licencing Act and regulation come into force Jan. 23 that will create new opportunities for businesses, increase convenience for consumers and enhance the Province’s commitment to social responsibility.

Through a new social responsibility campaign, the Province is promoting moderation and encouraging responsible alcohol consumption.

British Columbians are benefiting from the provincial government’s continued focus on improving consumer choice and convenience, increasing flexibility and reducing red tape for liquor sales and service in B.C.  

Anyone who has waited on hold for hours while trying to navigate a phone tree or had to fill out pages upon pages of forms knows about red tape. Most people have dealt with this type of frustration, and there are countless stories of how difficult it can be to access information or register for a government service.

B.C. hotels and resorts with a bar, pub or restaurant on site will soon be able to allow their guests to carry unfinished liquor from their licensed establishment directly to their rooms, a move that provides flexibility for businesses and increases convenience for British Columbians and visitors to the province.
