Effective at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015, open burning will once again be permitted throughout the Prince George Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

The Wood Lake wildfire burning near Harrison Lake, 20 kilometres north of Harrison Hot Springs, now covers about 1,325 hectares and is 40% contained. No structure or communities are currently at risk.

With weather conditions expected to remain warm and dry, water users in the Lower Columbia, West Kootenay and East Kootenay regions are being urged to reduce water consumption, and the Government of B.C. has announced a Level 3 drought rating for the area.

Much of the smoke that’s currently visible in parts of the Southeast Fire Centre is not coming from wildfires in B.C., but instead emanating from fires in Oregon, California and Washington.
