The wildfire east of Lake Kookanusa and south of Cutts Road toward the Elk River is now 100% contained. This fire was discovered on July 4, 2015 and grew quickly and aggressively, prompting the evacuation of 200 people near Kragmont and further evacuation alerts in nearby communities.

Smoke from the Cisco Road Fire near Lytton is drifting into the Southeast Fire Centre and residents may continue to see smoke from that blaze as firefighting crews work to suppress it.

Effective at noon on Thursday, June 4, 2015, Category 2 open fires will once again be permitted in the Southeast Fire Centre due to a decreased risk of wildfires.

Since April 1, 2015, the Wildfire Management Branch has responded to 39 wildfires in the Southeast Fire Centre. Of those fires, 34 were human-caused and therefore preventable.
