New training programs funded by the B.C. government will help Gitxsan Nation members improve their job readiness and find new career paths in the emerging liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry. 

Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation John Rustad and Minister of Justice Suzanne Anton have issued the following statement:

As an Aboriginal Skills Navigator in B.C., helping First Nations members overcome barriers to skills training and access family-supporting jobs is something Gloria Catherall is passionate about. 

The start of a new government-to-government relationship between the Province, the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council and seven Carrier Sekani First Nations will increase social and economic well-being for the First Nation communities.

The Ministry of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation and the Kwakiutl Indian Band have signed a Letter of Intent to establish a process for building a stronger relationship, with an emphasis on forming a mutual understanding of the 1851 Douglas Treaty.

A series of new community-based job skills training courses will provide greater access to sustainable employment for members of the Moricetown Band. The training will focus primarily on jobs related to the growing liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry.

The British Columbia government is investing $2.7 million to ensure more First Nations people in the Lower Mainland have greater access to skills and trades training for LNG jobs.
