Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) is now available to eligible British Columbians in the District of West Vancouver who may have been impacted from the flooding that occurred last week.

Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone released the following statement on highway operations to deal with current flood conditions facing the Chetwynd and Dawson Creek areas of Northern British Columbia:

Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) is now available to eligible British Columbians in the Peace River Regional District area, including Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, Fort St John, Hudson’s Hope, Pouce Coupe, Taylor, Tumbler Ridge and the First Nations communities of Saulteau and West Moberly who may have been impacted from the major flooding that occurred this past week.

Construction to improve safety and the flow of traffic at two key intersections on the Nanaimo Parkway has now been completed.

The first year of the Government of British Columbia’s 10-year transportation plan has resulted in upgrades to transportation infrastructure around the province, helping to grow the economy and improve safety.

To make the regional portion of Emergency Management BC’s $1.2-million earthquake exercise – taking place in Port Alberni from June 7-10, 2016 – as real as possible, the Province is relying on the time and donations of many businesses and volunteers to help deliver Exercise Coastal Response (https://news.gov.bc.ca/stories/exercise-coastal-response-2016), B.C.’s first ever, full-scale earthquake and tsunami response exercise throughout the entire provincial landscape.

A special decal to allow electric vehicles to travel in high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes in B.C. has already been issued to 1,000 electric vehicles owners in the province.
