Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) eligibility has been expanded and is now available to eligible British Columbians in the Kootenay region of the province for those who may have been impacted from the flooding that began on May 4, 2017.

Motorists should expect delays on the Trans-Canada Highway on Wednesday, May 10 to allow for the installation of Remote Avalanche Control Systems at Three Valley Gap.

Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) is now available to eligible British Columbians in the Central region who may have been impacted from the flooding that began on May 4, 2017.

Areas in the south and central interior of the province remain under Evacuation Alert or Order after recent flooding events, and there is a potential for increased snowmelt and further precipitation and flooding next week.

Residents along Nicola Lake are asked to take steps to protect their properties from localized flooding, expected to occur later this week.

The province is experiencing increased snow melt and precipitation in the B.C. Central and Southern Interior regions, which has raised the risk of landslides in those areas.

The Province is urging caution and encouraging the public to prepare for localized flooding as water levels are expected to rise in the B.C. Central and Southern Interior regions of the province due to anticipated increased snowmelt, precipitation and higher than normal rain levels throughout recent weeks.

The first aerial-spraying treatment period to eradicate invasive gypsy moths from land around Elk Lake and Bear Hill Regional Park, 10 km north of Victoria, will occur Monday, May 15, weather permitting.

BC Wildfire Service personnel will be conducting a prescribed burn in the Hope Creek area (30 kilometres north of Meadow Creek) during the month of May, weather and site conditions permitting.
