Students at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) will be encouraged to explore co-op opportunities to support their career ambitions.

Additional health-care seats are being offered through one-time funding of $111,000 to students in Prince George as they train to help meet an increased demand for health care in the region.

More than 90 Aboriginal learners in Northern B.C. are receiving training in their communities through five programs that will help them prepare for jobs such as health care assistants, skilled trades people and residential building maintenance assistants.

Communities in the north will benefit from one-time targeted funding of $209,289 for the College of New Caledonia to support adult-literacy programs.

Co-op students at the University of Northern British Columbia will benefit from $75,000 in one-time funding, part of a $1.3-million announcement to 16 public post-secondary institutions following the launch of Co-op Week celebrations.

One-time funding of $2.1 million will go toward startup and program-delivery costs of the Emily Carr Centre for Design Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Wood Innovation and Design Centre (WIDC).

As part of B.C.’s Skills for Jobs Blueprint, the College of New Caledonia (CNC) will receive funding for an additional 56 training spaces to increase access and reduce wait times for trades that are critical to the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector and other industries.
