The Province is providing $250,000 to continue to support the open education work being done in British Columbia through the Open Textbook Project.

More health-care seats are being added at three public post-secondary institutions on Vancouver Island through one-time funding of $345,000 to ensure that health demands for patients are being met in local communities.          

The Ministry of Advanced Education is funding partnerships that connect Aboriginal students with education and training programs in their communities. These programs provide Aboriginal learners with work-ready skills such as basic computer literacy, as well as skills needed for jobs in sectors such as construction, tourism and education.

New regulations ensure that student society fees can continue to be collected from all students at public post-secondary institutions, including those who resign their membership in a student society.

Students at Camosun College have saved over $115,000 since 2012 through the use of open textbooks that range from accounting to biology to trades titles.

Public post-secondary education institutions in the Thompson Okanagan and Kootenay region are preparing students for in-demand careers in a wide variety of sectors that support a growing and prosperous British Columbia economy.

Eleven public post-secondary institutions in B.C. are receiving funding for additional programs and services to improve the educational outcomes of Aboriginal learners, strengthen partnerships between post-secondary institutions and Aboriginal communities, and increase the relevance of post-secondary institutions for Aboriginal learners.  

Students in B.C. have even more to look forward to this back-to-school season as free open textbooks hit up to $2 million in overall student savings.
