The BC Wildfire Service is planning to burn slash piles in the Lardeau Valley, about 50 kilometres northwest of Kaslo, on Monday, Oct. 2, 2017. The goal is to reduce the amount of flammable material and reduce the risk of aggressive wildfires in this area in the future.

Effective at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, the area restriction that’s been in place around the Elephant Hill wildfire north of Ashcroft was rescinded. The BC Wildfire Service no longer needs to restrict access to the area to protect public safety or conduct its firefighting operations.

BC Wildfire Service personnel will be conducting forest-fuel treatments and doing pile burning in two locations near Smithers and Telkwa. The objective is to remove accumulated slash debris from firewood cutting and trees affected by mountain pine beetles.
