An area restriction for all Crown land in the vicinity of the Finlay Creek wildfire is in effect as of 9 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017.

The current hot, dry and windy conditions have caused an increase in fire behaviour for some modified response fires burning in the east Kootenay.  

The public is reminded that a number of road closures and area restrictions are in effect throughout the Southeast Fire Centre.

The increased wind activity experienced in the Southeast Fire Centre, paired with the hot and dry conditions continuing in the region, has resulted in an increase in fire behaviour.

At 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3, an updated area restriction for all Crown land in the vicinity of the Elephant Hill wildfire came into effect and will remain in force until noon on Oct. 31 or until the order is rescinded.

To aid in fire suppression activity and for public safety, the White Rock Forest Service Road and the White Swan Forest Service Road will now be closed, effective immediately.

In the interest of public safety, the Regional District of East Kootenay has implemented a full evacuation order for the Moyie Lake area.  

Effective at noon Pacific time today, Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, all Crown land within the Rocky Mountain Natural Resource District is closed to public access due to the continued extreme fire danger rating, the number of unprecedented aggressive wildfires throughout the region and moderate winds forecasted over the next few days.
