Current weather conditions in the Southeast Fire Centre are having an impact on wildfires in the region. Increased wind activity caused the size of several fires to grow on Sunday, July 30, 2017.

Hot and dry weather is in the forecast for the northwest part of the province, so the BC Wildfire Service is reminding the public that all open burning, including campfires, remains prohibited in the entire Northwest Fire Centre.

Smoke from wildfires burning in the Interior is expected to drift down through valleys into coastal areas on Tuesday and Wednesday (Aug. 1-2, 2017), due to a change in weather conditions. These conditions could persist for the remainder of this week.

BC Wildfire Service personnel are continuing to monitor and develop control strategies for the 80-hectare Harrop Creek wildfire.

Public access to the White-Middle Fork Forest Service Road in the Invermere fire zone is now closed at the 45.5-kilometre mark.

Smoke from a large fire burning in Washington State has been highly visible in the Penticton Fire Zone and in much of southern B.C. recently. The Elephant Hill wildfire’s west flank, to the east of the village of Clinton, has proved an ongoing challenge to wildfire suppression efforts over the past week due to sustained hot weather and variable winds.

BC Wildfire Service personnel have been responding to lightning-caused wildfires throughout the Southeast Fire Centre. Although some of these wildfires are visible from surrounding communities, none of these fires is immediately threatening communities or structures.
