Legislation has been introduced that will strengthen the Coastal Ferry Act to better serve the needs of people in coastal communities.

Claire Trevena, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, has issued the following statement encouraging British Columbians to participate in the final two weeks of consultation on ways to make active transportation options more convenient and affordable.

Solid efficient transportation infrastructure is critical to connecting communities, boosting trade and tourism, and strengthening the economy and middle class. 

Starting April 1, 2019, sailings will be restored on the majority of ferry routes that were cut in 2014, making it easier for people in coastal communities to get around.

Drivers are reminded that winter tire regulations have been extended to April 30, 2019, on many highways to account for early spring snowfall.

A new cable ferry is now in service in the West Kootenays, connecting the local ferry-dependent community of Harrop Procter.

New digital message signs on busy North Shore routes will help traffic flow, prevent secondary collisions and lower gas emissions.

New maintenance contracts for service areas 08 and 13 in the Okanagan have been awarded to Acciona Infrastructure Maintenance Inc.
