Drivers in the Lower Mainland soon will be paying less to get around as the British Columbia government is eliminating tolls on the Port Mann and Golden Ears bridges in time for the Labour Day Weekend, Premier John Horgan announced today.

Roadside reflectors will be installed on Highway 97C, the Okanagan Connector, enhancing the delineation of the highway and providing better visibility of the road alignment both at night and in adverse conditions.

Motorists who rely on the Alex Fraser Bridge will benefit from two projects going to tender today. The first is a new project to install a cable collar system for ice removal this winter. The second is for elements of the $70-million Alex Fraser Bridge capacity improvement project.

Ten kilometres of new wildlife-exclusion fencing will be built along the Coquihalla Highway south of Merritt, increasing safety for motorists by preventing wildlife-vehicle collisions.

The annual Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria bike ride takes place on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017, from approximately 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with an anticipated 1,500 cyclists riding through Victoria, the West Shore and the Saanich Peninsula.

Culvert replacement and other repairs are slated to begin later this summer for Highway 29, south of Chetwynd at Zonnebeke Creek.

Travellers are advised that Highway 49 between 8th Street (Highway 2) and Rolla Road 3 (Snakepit) will be closed while crews repair a culvert.
