The Province is responding to a potential case of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in a male white-tailed deer harvested east of Enderby.

A deer hunt is being introduced in Cranbrook from Jan. 5-31, 2026, to reduce the risk of chronic wasting disease (CWD) spreading among B.C.’s deer populations and to increase sampling efforts to monitor the disease’s prevalence.

The Province, with the support of the ʔaq’am and the cities of Cranbrook and Kimberley, has completed the removal and testing of urban deer to curb the spread of chronic wasting disease (CWD).
