Historic provincial investments will support communities in preparing for the risk of natural disasters related to climate change, along with a new one-stop online platform to help people and communities better prepare for, mitigate and understand disaster and climate risks.

Premier David Eby has issued the following statement marking Family Day:

B.C. families will have improved access to maternity care as the Province increases seats in the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) midwifery program by more than 70%.

The Province is providing $30 million to support B.C.-based events in response to calls from the sector for more help.

More people with complex needs can get improved employment supports on their path to long-term recovery, health and wellness, thanks to an $8.2-million provincial grant to the Canadian Mental Health Association of British Columbia.

More people will soon have access to hands-on training in a new state-of-the-art training centre to help them get skills for jobs in life sciences and biomanufacturing, supporting companies to help address some of the world’s most pressing health-care challenges.

Starting this summer, provincially regulated commercial vehicle operators will be required to use electronic logging devices (ELDs) to track drivers’ time behind the wheel, reducing the likelihood of driving while tired. 

Youth who want to help other youth will be able to train for jobs in the health and social services sector as youth peer support workers, thanks to a new $16.2-million provincial grant.
