Jennifer Whiteside, Minister of Education, has released the following statement regarding the first day of school:

Students and staff are returning to General Wolfe Elementary and Lord Byng Secondary now that they are seismically safe schools.

This September, every student at BX Elementary in Vernon will have a classroom space thanks to a new 10-classroom addition with room for 240 more students, eliminating the need for portables.  

Children and youth in the Saanich School District who need short-term, specialized educational support are moving into a new seismically safe school right in time for the school year.

It is not just the start of a new school year for Walnut Park Elementary students and staff – it is also the opening of a school with spaces for 440 kindergarten to Grade 7 students.

Government investments in Surrey for students and staff continue at a record pace, with the new Grandview Heights Secondary, expanded Sullivan Elementary and seismically upgraded Greenaway Elementary opening right in time for the start of the school year.

A new addition to West Sechelt Elementary with space for 145 more students is open and ready to welcome children this September.

Students and staff at Mitchell Elementary and Manoah Steves Elementary are returning to seismically safe schools next week thanks to record investments in upgrading or replacing high-risk schools throughout the province.

Right in time for a new school year, students and staff are heading to class at the recently completed École H.S. Grenda Middle school.
