Rachna Singh, Minister of Education and Child Care has released the following statement in celebration of Pride 2024 and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in B.C.’s education system: 

A new community centre in New Westminster offers 37 licensed child care spaces at the new Sea Otter YMCA Club.

B.C.’s K-12 students and staff will be protected from harassing protesters as the Province enacts access zones around schools.  

A Richmond elementary school will soon have room for 150 more students, as part of the provincial government’s plan to expand schools quicker in growing communities.

Families in West Kelowna will have more than 165 more student spaces as part of the government’s plan to expand schools faster.

Additional funding for early childhood educators (ECE) is helping recruit and retain staff in the child care sector, leading to a more supported workforce and better outcomes for children and families.

Families and children living in the Vancouver Marpole neighbourhood will benefit from 69 new child care spaces integrated into the newly rebuilt David Lloyd George Elementary school.

Students and families are one step closer to having a new elementary school with construction starting in the Township of Langley’s Willoughby Heights area.

Thirty-six children and their families in Lake Errock now have access to the new Sq’ewlets Child Care Centre.
