The Province is funding local community projects throughout B.C. to improve planning for evacuation routes and public notifications to keep people safe and informed when emergencies occur.

More people in B.C. will be better protected from natural and climate-driven hazards as the Province invests more than $6 million for 11 community projects.

To better protect people and communities throughout B.C. from the increasing threat of natural and climate-related emergencies, the Province is providing more than $40 million for 61 projects.

People in British Columbia are urged to prepare for seasonal hazards as the warming weather increases the likelihood of climate-related emergencies, including spring flooding, wildfires and drought.

New funding from the Province will allow the City of Merritt to rebuild two damaged dikes to higher standards to better protect against flooding and keep people safe.

To strengthen defences against the effects of climate change on communities, the Province is funding disaster-risk reduction and climate adaptation projects throughout British Columbia.

Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) is available for eligible people, businesses and communities in the Lower Mainland that were affected by flooding due to the atmospheric river from Oct. 18-20, 2024.
