Murray Rankin, Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, has issued the following statement to mark the 10th anniversary of the Maa-nulth Treaty:

More than 60 projects dedicated to restoring diverse ecosystems and conserving fish, wildlife and habitat are planned or underway throughout B.C.

The Riverview Lands have been renamed səmiq̓wəʔelə (pronounced Suh-MEE-kwuh-EL-uh), in recognition and respect of the Kwikwetlem First Nation’s (kʷikʷəƛ̓əm) historical and cultural ties to its ancestral land.

British Columbians are invited to share their feedback on a proposed strategy aimed at managing the growing number of visitors at Joffre Lakes Provincial Park and protecting its natural and cultural features.  

The governments of Canada, British Columbia and the Tlowitsis Nation have signed a new agreement that will further advance reconciliation and treaty negotiations.

The Province has transferred three parcels of Crown land to shíshálh Nation.

The Province and ‘Namgis First Nation have signed an agreement to partner on a modernized land use planning approach to manage the integrity of the ecosystems and natural resources in ‘Namgis territory.

A collaborative four-year effort between B.C. and Alaska to examine water quality in the Stikine, Taku, and Unuk transboundary watersheds brought together government agencies, Indigenous Nations, industry, and the public to ensure the environmental, cultural, and economic values of these rivers are protected.
