A public inquest into the death of Nicole Chan will begin on Jan. 23, 2023, at 9:30 am at the Burnaby Coroners’ Court (20th floor, 4720 Kingsway, Metrotower II, Metrotown, Burnaby).

Premier David Eby, Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, Mitzi Dean, Minister of Children and Family Development, and Jennifer Rice, Parliamentary Secretary for Emergency Preparedness, have released the following statement after a shooting in Prince Rupert:

Tsleil-Waututh Nation and the Province of B.C. have entered into a government-to-government cannabis agreement that supports cannabis economic development.

At 1:55 p.m. (Pacific time) on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022, Emergency Management BC will conduct a test of B.C.’s emergency alerting system as part of the national Alert Ready system to improve public safety in the event of emergency.  

People in Abbotsford will be better protected from flooding with more recovery work underway, including permanent Sumas Dike repairs and sediment removal for sites in the Fraser Valley.

Toxic drugs claimed the lives of at least 171 British Columbians in September 2022, putting the province on track to surpass 2,000 such deaths for a second consecutive year, according to data released by the BC Coroners Service.

Three community leaders and two community organizations have been recognized for their work supporting crime prevention and community safety, with a focus on transformative Indigenous-led approaches.
