Drivers and people travelling along busy Island highways this weekend are encouraged to plan ahead and avoid peak travel times for a safer and more relaxed journey.

As the Canada Day long weekend approaches, the Province encourages travellers to stay safe on the road by planning ahead and using extra caution.

A new wildlife overpass south of Radium Hot Springs will reduce vehicle collisions with bighorn sheep, making that stretch of Highway 93/95 safer for residents and other highway users while protecting the iconic local bighorn sheep herd.

Highway 4 is closed at Cameron Lake Bluffs because sustained high winds pose safety concerns for cranes suspending protective wire mesh at the site. The mesh must be lowered, which would put the site at increased risk of falling debris.

Highway 4 on Vancouver Island is on track to open to limited single-lane-alternating travel by June 24-25, 2023.

One new member has been appointed to BC Transit’s board of directors, joining six continuing members.

A segment of Highway 17 (South Fraser Perimeter Road), just north of the Highway 1 connection, will be closed for two nights this weekend for paving work.

Highway 4 is expected to open to limited travel as early as the weekend of June 24-25, 2023, after a wildfire closed the route on June 6.
