Premier David Eby has issued the following statement marking New Year’s Day:

With snow and freezing rain in the forecast, which may cause dangerous road conditions, travel advisories are in place for many areas of B.C., including the Fraser Valley and mid- and south Vancouver Island from Thursday, Dec. 22 until Saturday, Dec. 24. 

The Province, through BC Housing, has partnered with the Turning Points Collaborative Society and the City of Vernon to open 52 new supportive homes for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Vernon.

Young people from government care have more support to make stronger transitions into adulthood because of $600-a-month rent supplements.

British Columbians should take precautions, as colder-than-normal temperatures and snow are forecast through next week, beginning Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022.

Construction has started on Port Alberni’s first tiny-shelter village, which will provide 30 homes for people experiencing homelessness in the community.

People in rapidly growing northern communities will benefit from provincial funding for eight new projects, including those that build local capacity in child care, mental-health and substance-use support, and employment services.

People living in Chilliwack with complex mental-health and substance-use challenges will have access to enhanced services as the Province adds as many as 22 complex-care housing spaces.
