Lisa Lapointe, chief coroner, has released the following statement about public safety during the increase in heat in B.C.:

The Government of B.C. is supporting the shíshálh Nation’s plans to build and operate new culturally appropriate housing for their members, with a particular focus on Elders, women and children, and others in need of affordable housing in their community.  

The B.C. government is teaming up with the Red Cross to provide Lytton-area households impacted by the wildfire with one-time $2,000 payments.

The Province is taking action and mobilizing health authorities, Emergency Management BC (EMBC) and the BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) to assist this weekend as temperatures are expected to rise in the next 24 to 48 hours.

With much of British Columbia under a heat warning and experiencing high or extreme wildfire risks, the B.C. government is urging travellers and residents to be extremely cautious over the B.C. Day long weekend.
