Kindergarten-to-Grade 12 students in some of B.C.’s rural and remote communities are learning this year from 50 new teachers who were recruited through the Province’s new hiring incentives.

Students, families and staff can look forward to school improvements in Abbotsford that include a completed seismic safety upgrade this year.

Rachna Singh, Minister of Education and Child Care, has released the following statement regarding the first day of school: 

Students and staff in Coquitlam are starting the school year in a new school that is helping address enrolment growth in one of B.C.’s fast-growing communities.

An addition at École K.B. Woodward is now complete, providing a more modern learning experience for students, one of the many investments being made in Surrey schools.

Early childhood professionals educated in languages other than English will have reduced costs and more support to become certified to work in British Columbia’s child care sector, as a result of financial support to translate educational documents into English.  

To support students as they gain skills and knowledge for the future, the remaining school districts will update their kindergarten through Grade 9 student progress reporting to align with curriculum modernization that started in 2016.
