People in Port Moody are a step closer to enjoying the benefits of a comprehensive transit-oriented community made possible by legislation passed in 2022 that allows the Province to buy land for housing projects near transit hubs.

Premier David Eby and Kelli Paddon, Parliamentary Secretary for Gender Equity, have released the following statement in honour of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women:

Young people in crisis will be better supported in hospital and when they return home through two new response teams that co-ordinate care for youth experiencing mental-health or substance-use crises in the Fraser Health region.

The Province is taking action to fight real estate speculation and turn more empty units into homes for people by expanding the speculation and vacancy tax to 13 new municipalities.

Homeowners and builders will soon be able to develop new housing quicker and with less cost as the Province works to create new standardized designs for small-scale, multi-unit homes, such as townhomes, triplexes and laneway homes.

Building more homes near transit hubs is the focus of new proposed legislation aimed at speeding up the delivery of homes and encouraging more communities near the transit, services and amenities that make life better for people.
