Indigenous communities in British Columbia that are interested in developing agriculture businesses and supporting local food security will soon have more tools to plan and pursue those opportunities.

Oyster farmers from British Columbia’s coastal communities are seeing increased opportunities and stability in the oyster industry, stemming from funding through the BC Oyster Recovery Fund.

The people involved in the first stage of growing fresh and healthy B.C. vegetables are getting some help to increase the amount of local food grown in their communities.

There will soon be more opportunities for B.C. youth interested in agriculture, with a funding increase to 4-H British Columbia aimed at increasing the participation of urban and Indigenous youth.

The Province of British Columbia and the ‘Namgis, Kwikwasut’inuxw Haxwa’mis and Mamalilikulla First Nations  are extending their formalized talks regarding salmon aquaculture tenures in the Broughton Area, following significant progress this summer.

British Columbia’s food producers and processors are getting help from the governments of Canada and B.C. to help find new customers in other parts of Canada and around the globe.
