A single Asian giant hornet (Vespa mandarina) was found near the junction of Fraser Highway and Highway 13 in Aldergrove on Nov. 7, 2020, approximately five kilometres away from where one was found in Abbotsford on Nov. 2.

Abbotsford-area beekeepers and residents are being asked to report if they see any Asian giant hornets (Vespa mandarinia), following the discovery of one hornet in the 7000 block of Bradner Road on Monday, Nov. 2, 2020.

Residents along 0 Avenue (pronounced as "Zero Avenue"), from Surrey to Aldergrove, are asked to report sightings of Asian giant hornets (Vespa mandarinia) that may emerge from their nests in the coming weeks and months.

On the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019, an Asian giant hornet’s (vespa mandarinia) nest was located in the ground in the Robin’s Park area in south Nanaimo and destroyed.

Three large insects found in the Nanaimo area in August have been confirmed by Canadian and international experts as Asian giant hornets (vespa mandarinia), the first time they have been found on Vancouver Island.
