Recently, the B.C. government marked an important milestone with the second phase of our commitment to revitalize the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) and the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC).

The Wild Salmon Advisory Council has submitted its final recommendations to develop a Made-in-B.C. Wild Salmon Strategy for the B.C. government’s review and consideration.

Legislation has been introduced to strengthen the independence of the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC), so it can better fulfill its mandate of preserving the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR), while encouraging farming and ranching within British Columbia.

Regulations that strengthen B.C.’s Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) came into force under Bill 52 on Feb. 22, 2019, enhancing food security and encouraging farming in the ALR.

During the International Year of the Salmon, the B.C. government is supporting a comprehensive study of the stock abundance, composition and condition of Pacific salmon in the Gulf of Alaska.

Applications for carbon tax relief grants for the 2019 production year for eligible commercial greenhouse operators are now open and will be accepted until March 29, 2019.
