The Province, City of Vancouver and Vancouver Police Board have announced details of the scope of an independent review of the planning and activities that led up to, and the violence that followed, the Stanley Cup final game June 15.

Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General Shirley Bond issued the following statement on the crowd response to game seven of the Stanley Cup final in Vancouver: While most people who took part in the festivities tonight were able to enjoy the game in a peaceful manner, I am extremely disappointed to see the situation in downtown Vancouver turn violent after tonight’s Stanley Cup game.

The general manager of the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch has determined there is again a real and serious threat to public safety that warrants the closure of 13 private and six public liquors stores located in downtown Vancouver tomorrow at 4 p.m.

Solicitor General Shirley Bond issued the following statement today in response to the early closure of liquor stores in downtown Vancouver:

Working together, B.C.'s Civil Forfeiture Office and the BC Securities Commission have reunited 37 Canadians with the full amount of $190,121 they lost to fraud in 2003.

Despite the more stable water levels in the area, the emergency operations staff members in Houston are still concerned and urging residents to stay prepared in case of an evacuation order.
