Soon it will be time for books, backpacks and back to school - and some B.C. youth formerly in government care are getting an extra boost from a bursary funded by the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

In order to ensure the safety and well-being of all children and youth in the Child in the Home of a Relative (CIHR) program, all previously unscreened caregivers will now be required to undergo screening checks beginning Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011.

To align with the implementation of full-day kindergarten this fall and ensure consistency for all school-aged children, the Ministry of Children and Family Development is adjusting child-care subsidy rates.
