Katrine Conroy, Minister of Children and Family Development, and Katrina Chen, Minister of State for Child Care, have issued the following joint statement to celebrate reaching a milestone under the Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative:

Some of B.C.’s most-vulnerable youth on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside have a newly renovated space that’s tailored to serve their needs.

Katrine Conroy, Minister of Children and Family Development, and Katrina Chen, Minister of State for Child Care, have issued the following statement recognizing the importance of Child Care Month in B.C.:

Tracy Beynon is a child protection intake worker who grew up in Prince Rupert. She knows that sometimes just greeting a family member in the traditional Sm’algyax (Tsimshian) language — “Ndaayu wila waan”— can be a simple way to show respect, and ease some of the tensions when she first enters a home to follow up on a child-welfare report.

Lisa Sanghera thinks her interest in social work may be the result of the issues her parents faced as an interracial couple in 1950s Vancouver.

Young adults, who have spent time in government care, will now get more financial support for rent, child care and health care while they go back to school or attend a rehabilitation, vocational or approved life skills program.
