Families, students and school staff celebrated the official opening of Skwo:wech Elementary, which provides a modern learning and teaching environment along with an important meaning in its new name.

The wait is over for students in New Westminster who have begun the New Year in a new, modern, engaging and inspiring secondary school that will benefit the community now and in the future.

Former residents of Woodlands who attended the school before Aug. 1, 1974, will finally receive compensation for systemic abuse suffered at the provincial institution, announced Premier John Horgan.

Students in the New Westminster School District are connecting with skills and technology training development thanks to a $17,500 grant to the district from the Province’s Shoulder Tappers Program.

Students, teachers and staff at four schools in the New Westminster school district will benefit from $175,000 in provincial School Enhancement Program funding.

Students, teachers and staff at F.W. Howay Elementary will soon have a safer and refreshed school with work now underway to seismically upgrade the school.
