Students and staff in Coquitlam are starting the school year in a new school that is helping address enrolment growth in one of B.C.’s fast-growing communities.

One new school is open, and another is on the way to provide a better learning experience for students in the Tri-Cities.

An important step in bringing a new middle-secondary school to families in Coquitlam’s Burke Mountain neighbourhood is complete, as government has approved the concept plan to build the facility.

Construction of the new state-of-the-art $28.7-million École Moody Middle School of the Arts is already at the half way mark, on track to welcome up to 450 grades 6-8 students this fall.

Students in the Coquitlam School District are connecting with skills and technology training development thanks to a $17,500 grant to the district from the Province’s Shoulder Tappers Program.

Students, teachers and staff at Westwood Elementary school in the Coquitlam school district will benefit from $270,500 in provincial School Enhancement Program funding.  

Families in the Coquitlam school district will benefit from improved transportation services, thanks to $81,641 in funding under the new provincial Student Transportation Fund.

Gleneagle Secondary student Kelvin Zhang is an incredible innovator with serious smarts. He loves using artificial intelligence to solve real-world problems. These days he’s focussing on the technology of self-driving cars.

Students, families and the Burke Mountain community will soon benefit from the new $20.5-million Smiling Creek Elementary School, thanks to a partnership between the Government of B.C., the Coquitlam School District and the City of Coquitlam.
