A local high school student was at the controls of an excavator today for the ceremonial ground-breaking of the new NorKam Trades Centre of Excellence. The student, 17 -year- old Joey Kineshanko made the first dig to the cheers of NorKam students and construction workers.

The B.C. Ministry of Education and the Kamloops/Thompson Board of Education have signed a formal project agreement that clears the way for work to begin on the new $7.4-million trades training centre at NorKam Secondary.

Education Minister George Abbott helped celebrate the official opening of the A.E. Perry StrongStart BC centre by reading to kids and their parents from a book of First Nations stories called Thanks to Animals and presenting a copy of the book to the centre.

This September pre-schoolers and their families will have access to a new StrongStart BC early learning program that is reflective of local First Nations culture and traditions in the Kamloops area.
